Happy New Year!

This past year has been quite a ride.  It's been a pretty fabulous year, I must say.  So many things happened.  I became a Mommy for the second time to another gorgeous baby girl.  My older daughter started Kindergarten full day, and is taking the bus.  I discovered that I actually do have more artistic talent that I thought (I painted a mural in the baby's room!)  There are so many other wonderful things that have happened, but I can't keep track of them all.  So, I'm just going to tie it all up in a big blue bow (because I like blue better than red...dark blue that is,) and say that 2014 was pretty spectacular.

That being said, I want to try to set some goals for myself in 2015.  I don't necessarily think that meeting all of these goals will dictate how awesome my year will or won't be, but it's nice to set some goals and see how I meet them.  Plus, I'm sort of competitive (just ask my hubby about playing Monopoly...he cheats, by the way...does that give you a clue?)  So, a couple of years ago, I set up goals for myself for each month.  I did make most of them.  Some, not so much, which is ok.  I didn't beat myself up over it either...which is an even bigger step.  I'm going to think of some goals to set for myself again and see what happens.

January - I need to get into a better sleep pattern.  I have a 6 month old baby who sleeps like a frickin champ.  I'm NOT kidding.  This child sleeps anywhere from 9-11 hours a night!  She has since she was about a month old.  She also wakes up smiling.  Can we say sweetest baby EVER??  That being said, I have no excuse to be so tired.  I need to get myself moving in the morning and to bed at a decent hour at night (1 a.m. is NOT a decent hour, self.)  **UPDATE: Still working on this, but I'm getting better.  Vacation threw a wrench in this for a bit, but that's ok.  It's only a week.

February - My hubby and I don't do Valentine's Day.  We just simply don't.  Never have.  I'm not a fan, and neither is he.  However, we still need to keep some romance alive.  So, my goal for the month of February is to take more time out for my hubby.  Whether it be to go out on a date night more often, or to simply sit and talk a little more.  Maybe try a new (or new to him) restaurant, or go see a movie.  It doesn't matter, as long as we do it together...and don't play Monopoly.  **UPDATE: We actually did go out for Valentine's Day.  We went and painted wine glasses!

March - Get those creative juices flowing!!  Seriously.  I'm a pretty creative person and I've been letting that fall to the wayside lately.  I need to get my act together and get creating again.  Maybe give my small (teeny tiny) crafting business a kick in the rear.  But, not necessarily.  I just need to get creating again.  I feel my best when I make something pretty or cool.  It needs to start happening more regularly.  **UPDATE: Well, the creative juices are flowing.  I'm not creating regularly, that's kind of hard with 2 kids, but I am creating...and writing a book.

April - Ahhhh, April.  Month of Easter and my older daughter's birthday.  This year, I have 2 kids to think of for Easter.  I need to NOT go overboard again.  I know, I say it every single year.  But I really mean it this year...again.  When I was a kid, we got the egg hunt, a small basket and a small toy.  I need to stick to those basics this year.  Or, maybe I'll just hand over the candy buying to the hubby.  He's good at reigning it in.  **UPDATE:  NAILED IT!  I made my hubby buy the candy, and we did good!

May - This is what my hubby likes to call his "birthday month."  Yeah, he thinks he gets a whole month dedicated to his own self.  I don't indulge in the whole month, but I do try to do what he wants for his birthday.  He's also impossible to buy for.  I hate shopping for him.  I do.  He knows I do.  So, for May, I'm going to make it the same goal as last time...to get him a gift that he'll really love with time to spare.  And we'll all go out to dinner...or something.  **UPDATE: NAILED IT AGAIN!  I was very proud of myself.

June - School's letting out!!  WOO HOO!!  I get my "big baby" back full time this month.  That means that we have all day, every day to do something fun...or not, depending on how we feel.  So, my goal is to get out with the girls at least twice a week to do something fun.  Whether it's just a trip to the playground or a surprise day trip to the beach, we're going to make this summer lots of fun.  **UPDATE: We're loving summer so far!

July - We will have a one year old!  So, we'll be celebrating her birthday with a party.  We tend to keep the one year party small (well, small for my family.)  So, we'll do that, and since her birthday is only 3 days after mine, we'll probably celebrate a bit together.  I also want to keep up with the fun stuff every week.  Summer doesn't last forever, after all.

August - I have a love/hate relationship with the month of August.  I love it because I still have a month of summer left, but on the flip side, I only have a month of summer left.  I want to keep trying to fit in everything I can with the girls while I have them both here at home with me all day.  I'm thinking a day (or overnight) trip to the beach is in order.

September - School starts this month.  In some ways, I look forward to while the older daughter is in school, but I miss her during the day.  I want to start the month off right by getting up to the school and volunteering from the beginning.  I love spending time up there and seeing my daughter in action.  So, I want to get up to the school sooner and start volunteering sooner.

October - Halloween!!  I LOVE Halloween.  Every year, my older daughter and I tried to get costumes that went together.  This year, I'd love to see if she'll do something where we could all dress up together.  Although, I highly doubt my husband will give in this year.  He never does.  In any case, I would like to make both of the girls' costumes this year.  Last year, my older daughter was Elsa (your welcome to all who played the drinking game.)  The baby was only about 3 months old, and she was a pink bunny.  I made an Olaf costume for myself.  This year...the possibilities are endless.

November - THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!  My FAVORITE holiday.  This year, we resumed our tradition of Christmas Eve, but I was beyond stressed out.  I felt like nothing was going to get done, and it stunk.  So, we decided that we are going to host Thanksgiving this year and give Christmas Eve a rest.  It will be a change for us, but one that I'm looking forward to putting into place.

December - CHRISTMASSSS!!!!  It's no secret.  I love Christmas...after Thanksgiving, that is.  I will be honest.  When I drive around before Thanksgiving and see all these people decorated for Christmas already, I have the urge to burn their displays down.  I wouldn't ever ever act on that urge, but it is there.  After Thanksgiving, that switch is flipped and I can't get enough of the lights and decorations.  This past year was hectic.  I didn't have everything that I normally have done done on time.  This year, I want to be back on track and get through without the stress I felt this year.  Then I can sit back and relax and enjoy the season with my 2 precious girls.

So, that's it.  I'll try to do an update each month...or at all.  I know not many people read this blog because I really don't post all that much, but I do post things like this because then it's out in the blogosphere and I can be held accountable for my actions...or lack thereof.  :-)  Hopefully I keep on track this year again.  I don't know that it will make me a better person, but it will definitely help me feel more accomplished.
